Lexus . How to Replace Spark Plugs in a GMC Sierra

The GMC Sierra is available in 1500 and 2500 models. The spark plug replacement process on both of these GMC Sierra models is the same. GMC suggests that all spark plugs be replaced every 100,000 miles. When removing spark plugs, always remove one spark plug wire at a time to avoid mixing up the wires.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Spark plug socket
Socket wrench with extension
Silicone spray
New spark plugs
Tension testing tool

Step by Step :
1
Disconnect the negative battery cable and allow the engine to cool.
2
Find the spark plugs on the vehicle that are located on the sides of the engine. Some of the GMC Sierra engines have a rubber flap covering the sides. Remove the flap to gain access to the spark plugs.
3
Take the spark plug wire by the boot and turn it to release the lock. Pull back on the spark plug wire by the boot. This removes the wire from the spark plug revealing the spark plug.
4
Cover the spark plug with the socket. Use the extension and the socket wrench to unscrew the spark plug. Pull the spark plug out of the cylinder head.
5
Spray silicone onto the threads of the spark plug and insert the new spark plug into the socket. Use the socket and wrench to thread the new spark plug in place. Gently turn the spark plug to the right to start the threading process. Never force the spark plug into the bore.
6
Connect the spark plug cable to the end of the spark plug and remove the next spark plug cable. Repeat the above process for the rest of the spark plugs.
7
Connect the battery cable and replace the rubber flap, if removed in Step 2.

Lexus . How to Replace Spark Plugs in a Chevy Camaro

Chevy Camaro spark plugs are manufactured to last 60,000 to 100,000 miles, depending on the brand. The Chevrolet Cooperation suggests that you inspect and clean spark plugs every 30,000 to 40,000 miles. If the spark plug is coated in carbon or debris, replace the spark plugs to maintain an efficient engine.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Spark plug socket
Socket wrench with extender
Wire brush
New spark plug
Silicon spray

Step by Step :
1
Allow the engine to cool before removing the spark plugs. Removing a spark plug from a warm engine causes damage to the cylinder block, especially in aluminum engines.
2
Locate the spark plugs, which plug directly into both sides of the engine block. On the newer models with dust covers, they are located below the cover.
3
Grab the end of the spark wire that is connected to the engine. The cap, or cover, on the end of the wire is called a "boot." Always pull a spark plug wire by the boot. Turn the boot 180-degrees to the right and then 180-degrees to the left. This releases the lock on the spark plug. Pull back on the boot to remove the wire. Remove and replace one spark plug at a time to cut down on confusion when putting the wires back.
4
Insert the socket and socket wrench into the spark plug well and over the spark plug itself. Do not use a flexible extension, as the force can break the plug. Turn the socket wrench to the left to loosen it from the well. Pull the old socket out with the wrench.
5
Remove any debris or dirt in the well or in the wire boot with a wire brush.
6
Spray the new spark plug threads and wire boot with silicon spray to ensure the spark plug or wire don't stick together or to the spark plug well.
7
Insert the spark plug into the well and thread it by hand to reduce the chance of cross threading. Tighten the spark plug 1/4 turn with the socket, if you have a spark plug with a crush washer. If the Camaro requires a tapered spark plug, use a tension tester tool to set the tension to the specifications listed on the package.
8
Replace the spark plug wire and turn it 180 degrees to the right and then back again until you hear a click.
9
Repeat Steps 2 through 8 for the remaining spark plugs.

5. Replace the adjusting nut by screwing it on firmly and then backing it off half a turn and retightening it "finger tight." ^ ^—-^ Another way to complete this step is to back the adjusting nut off one full notch (60 degrees) and, if the notch doesn't line up with the hole in the spindle, back it off just enough until it does. Then spin the wheel by hand to be sure that it turns freely. If it doesn't, loosen the nut a bit more. 6. Insert the cotter pin into the hole in the castellated nut. The cotter pin should clear the outer grooves and go all the way through. Refer to your sketch, if you made one, to make sure that it's pointing in the right direction. 7. Bend the legs of the cotter pin back across the surface of the nut to hold it in place. 8. Replace the grease cap. 9. Follow the instructions in Chapter 1 to replace your wheel, lug nuts, and hubcap and lower the vehicle to the ground. Checking disc brakes Today, most vehicles have four-wheel disc brakes. Others have disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes on the rear wheels. 847 Car Insurance cadillac escalade 2009 184200

Part'" : KeePin9 Your Car in Gootl Condition, System by System You should check disc brakes and disc brake linings every 10,000 miles — more often if your brakes suddenly start to squeal or pull to one side, or if your brake pedal flutters when you step on it. Before you check your brakes, go to an auto supply store or to the parts department of your dealership and ask to see a set of brake pads for your vehicle's make, model, and year. Measure the thickness of the linings on the pads so that you'll be able to tell whether the linings on your brakes are badly worn when you check them. To check disc brakes, use Figure 18-10 for guidance and follow these steps: Calipers nT-gife Disc y* \m

2. Look at the rotor, but don't attempt to remove it from the vehicle. The brake caliper has to be removed before you can remove a disc brake rotor, and there's no need to do so. If you're working alone, just check the visible part of the rotor for heavy rust, scoring, and uneven wear. Rust generally does no damage unless the vehicle has been standing idle for a long time and the rust has really built up. If your rotor is badly scored or worn unevenly, have a professional determine whether it can be reground or it needs to be replaced. .Chapter 18: Being a Buddy to Your Brakes and Bearings !? C 2 3. Inspect your brake caliper (the component blocking your view of the entire disc brake rotor). Be careful. If the vehicle has been driven recently, the caliper will be hot. If it's cool to the touch, grasp it and gently shake it to make sure that it isn't loosely mounted and its mounting hardware isn't worn. 4. Peek through the dust shield on the caliper and look at the brake pads inside. If the linings on the brake pads look much thinner than the new ones you saw, they probably have to be replaced. If the linings have worn to the metal pads, the disc probably has to be reground as well. 5. Follow the instructions in Chapter 1 to replace your wheel, lug nuts, and hubcap and lower the vehicle to the ground. If the rotor and pads seem to be in good condition and your brake pedal doesn't flutter when you step on it, there's nothing else you need to do. Relining, caliper maintenance, and disc grinding should be left to a professional unless you do the job under supervision at an auto class. Go to a brake specialist (use the Yellow Pages or ask a friendly mechanic to steer you to one) rather than to the corner garage for this kind of work. Call a couple of shops and ask for estimates. Choose neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. Chapter 22 is devoted to finding a good service facility and dealing with them successfully.

Checking and Packing Wheei Bearings As you can see back in Figure 18-4, wheel bearings usually come in pairs of inner and outer bearings. They allow your wheels to turn freely over thou sands of miles by cushioning the contact between the wheel and the spindle it sits on with frictionless bearings and lots of nice, gooey grease. This grease tends to pick up dust, dirt, and little particles of metal, although the bearings are protected to some extent by the hub and the brake drum or disc. * If you have drum brakes, it's important to check the bearings when you check your brakes to make sure that the grease hasn't become fouled with this stuff. If it has, the particles act abrasively to wear away the very connection the bearings are designed to protect, and the result is a noisy, grinding ride. In extreme cases, you could even lose the wheel! If the bearings look cruddy, either repack them yourself or get a professional to do it. 384 Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System
